Changes – 2012 plans
Testing nature of the rally in Kapuvár made it possible for Sólyom Team to aquire a lot of experience, as all parts of HAWKIA were “on the move”. The current buildup works, apart from some minor things there’s not much work on the car till the next rally.
As everything in the world is in change, Sólyom Team has to adapt itself to the changes as well. The team has set up its new 2012 racing calendar along new thoughts after evaluating the plans from the start of the season. The rallies will be the following:
XLavina Rábaköz Cup - HUN
Baja Carpathia - POL
Eurocarpatica Cup - ROU
HunGarian Baja - HUN
Internext Rally - CZE
Baja Slovakia - SVK
24h Rally Raid in Greece - GRE
Olivér Sólyom: “We have set one race as the pinpoint of our season, and this will be the 24 hours race near Athens. All other rallies mean only testing for us. I would like the HAWKIA to run flawlessly in Athens. By then I don’t want to carry with us any mechanical problems, that’s the cause of the inferior rank of the other rallies. We miss the rallies of the Southern countries badly, I really hate that we couldn’t go to Evia Rally and even more to give up our plans for Rally Albania and Balkan Offroad Marathon, but these compromises are needed for the optimal season for the team.
The 24 hours race on 24-25th November means a very hard challenge as it is not about running lap after lap on the same track for 24 hours but to complete 930 race kilometres on five different specials (280 km, 100 km, 210 km, 150 km, 190 km) on varied terrain. So we don’t only have to compete against the rivals and against the time but also with the distance in the Greek mountains. Last year – despite the rally didn’t run well for us – we loved the atmosphere, driving at night, and, of course, the adrenalin it induced. By all means we will be on the start line in Athens.
